The signature is a very early and highly collectable example of the author’s signature with the periods still present after the’J’ and the’K'; as the author speeded up her signature, the periods were gone by mid to late 1998. Being a much-used school book, the book has lost its laminate and has creases to the covers, particularly the front cover; the spine is sunned, with small splits to the spine foot. Page 9 has a small closed edge tear and light green ink marks to the page. The remaining pages are toned, but in good condition. Inside the front cover of the book is a’Children’s Book Award Tester’ sticker – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone won the award in 1998. Name in pencil to top of half-title page’Plymstock’.
